Former rep regains freedom after spending 11 days in captivity
Former member of the House of Representatives, Joan Onyemaechi, has regained freedom after spending 11 days in captivity.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the development in a post on X on Saturday.
“Police PRO SP Bright Edafe has just officially confirmed Rt. Hon. Joan Onyemaechi (Ada-Anioma) has been released by her abductors… details coming,” the police said.
The former lawmaker is reportedly receiving medical attention following her ordeal.
Onyemaechi was kidnapped on July 30, in her church located in Asaba. Her abductors were said to have killed her driver and police orderly before taking her away to an unknown destination.
The kidnappers had initially requested a N1 billion ransom, but it is unclear if any amount was paid before her release.
