Helen Ukpabio demands N200bn damages from Bloody Civilian over defamation

Nigerian pastor Helen Ukpabio has demanded N200 billion naira in damages from singer Bloody Civilian for allegedly defaming her.

The demand follows accusations made by Bloody Civilian, who claimed that Ukpabio, founder of the Liberty Gospel Church, is “literally making people burn their children alive.” Bloody Civilian made these comments in a post celebrating Ukpabio’s 60th birthday on X.

In addition to her accusations, Bloody Civilian shared a YouTube documentary that criticized Ukpabio’s methods and ideology.

In response to the singer’s remarks, Ukpabio’s daughter, Imabong, gave Bloody Civilian five hours to delete the post or face legal action.
Ukpabio responded through her legal representative, calling the accusations “reckless, satanic, and libellous.”

She demanded N200 billion naira for the distress, trauma, pain, and anguish caused by the comments and requested a public apology from Bloody Civilian.

In light of the legal situation, Bloody Civilian made light of the demands on her X handle by joking that she would be offering services such as stand-up comedy, weddings, and dispute resolution to afford the damages.
She wrote, “Guys, they just sued me for 200 billion naira. This December, I will be adding the following to my services: stand-up comedy, weddings, and settling disputes.”
