Arewa Consultative Forum reinstated national chair after suspension

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has recalled its national chairman, Mamman Osuman, after a two-week suspension.

On November 21, Osuman criticised northern leaders for not finding solutions to the challenges facing the region.

He queried the roles of governors and lawmakers from the region in improving the economic hardship inflicted on the people by President Bola Tinubu’s policies.

He reportedly announced the support of the forum for a northern candidate in the 2027 general election.

Subsequently, the ACF suspended Osuman as its chairman for issuing an unauthorised statement.

The ACF noted that he did not consult with other leaders and members of the forum before releasing the statement.

However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, Murtala Aliyu, the ACF secretary-general, said that Osuman’s suspension had been lifted in the interest of unity and the people of Arewa.

The statement said the intervention of the ACF’s unity and peace reconciliation committee, chaired by Yayale Ahmed, a former secretary to the government of the federation, led to the resolution of the issue.

Aliyu added that the contending issues have been resolved amicably for the interest of the north.

“Sequel to the recent suspension of the chairman of the National Executive Council of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Chief Mamman Mike Osuman, SAN, OFR, by the leadership of ACF over an alleged unauthorised political statement not in consonance with ACF’s nonpartisan position,” the statement reads.

“The following press statement in respect of the subject matter is hereby issued: That the ACF Unity, Peace and Reconciliation Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed, CFR (Ajiyan Katagum), has intervened in the recent crisis.

“It had invited some stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and that of the National Executive Council, among others, and have had a family discussion on the unfortunate development.

“Consequently, the issue has been amicably resolved in the interest of the great people of Arewa, and the suspension is hereby withdrawn.”
