Nigerian soccer legend Christian Chukwu is dead

The Nigerian football community is in mourning as the former national football team captain and coach, Christian Chukwu, has died.

He was aged 74 when he died this Saturday. The cause of his death is unknown, but he had been in and out of ail sicknesses for some time, causing an earlier report of his demise about three years ago,.

That report later turned out to be untrue.

The late Chukwu was the first man to lift the African Cup of Nations trophy, when the Super Eagles defeated Algeria in the 1980 final at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
