Nine people are known to have been killed and others injured after a man drives an SUV into a crowd at a festival, Vancouver police say

“It was just horrible,” a food truck owner who was at the scene tells the BBC – the car went “completely straight, right through the crowd”

Police say a 30-year-old man, a resident of the city, is in custody, adding that they are confident this is not an act of terrorism

He was known to police “in certain circumstances”, but Vancouver’s police chief says he can’t comment on whether the suspect has a criminal background
