Umar Abdulrasheed nominated for 2026 Eko Heritage Award

Contemporary ceramic artist and sculptor Umar Abdulrasheed has been nominated for the 2026 Eko Heritage Awards in the Eko Outstanding Visual Artist of the Year category, in recognition of his contributions to ceramics, sculpture, and the use of art to promote climate change and environmental awareness.

 

The awards, endorsed by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, honour individuals who have made significant contributions to preserving and promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

 

Abdulrasheed is recognised for blending traditional ceramic craftsmanship with contemporary artistic expression while exploring themes of identity, heritage, and environmental sustainability. A member of the UK Craft Potters Association, his works have been exhibited in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, and South Africa.

 

He is nominated alongside David Olowoake, Mutiu Adelani, Julius Nwobi, and Bunmi Fashina.
