Nigerian Army Destroys Illegal Bunkering Site, Arrests Six Suspects in Lagos
Troops Recover Trucks, Equipment During Intelligence-Led Raid
Troops of the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected illegal oil bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State, arresting six suspected oil bunkerers during a targeted operation based on credible intelligence. The raid forms part of ongoing efforts to combat economic sabotage and safeguard critical national assets.
According to the Nigerian Army, the operation was conducted under the leadership of the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, following intelligence reports on illegal bunkering activities within the area.
The operation led to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of four trucks, one pumping machine, as well as assorted pipes and drums believed to have been used for illegal petroleum operations.
Following the raid, the suspects and all recovered exhibits were handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commending the troops for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, praised their professionalism and urged them to sustain the offensive against illegal bunkering and other criminal activities within the division’s area of responsibility.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against oil theft, noting that the latest raid is part of broader efforts to eliminate illegal bunkering, protect the nation’s economic assets and strengthen security across Lagos and other parts of the country.
