Fresh Katsina Bandit Attack Leaves One Dead, 31 Residents Kidnapped

Armed assailants storm community overnight as survivors recount fear and destruction

A fresh bandit attack has claimed the life of one person and left 31 residents abducted in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, deepening concerns over the persistent wave of insecurity across the region. The assailants reportedly invaded the community under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically before whisking away dozens of victims to an unknown destination.

Residents said the attackers moved from house to house during the raid, forcing families to flee while abducting men, women and children. The lone fatality was reportedly killed during the assault, while several homes were thrown into panic as villagers struggled to escape. Survivors described the incident as one of the latest in a series of attacks that have continued to disrupt daily life in rural communities across Katsina State.

Community leaders have appealed to security agencies to intensify operations in the area and secure the release of those still in captivity. They also called for increased deployment of security personnel to vulnerable settlements, warning that repeated attacks have forced many residents to abandon their farms and livelihoods out of fear.

The latest attack adds to the growing security challenges confronting northwestern Nigeria, where armed groups frequently carry out kidnappings and deadly raids for ransom. Authorities are expected to continue efforts to track down the perpetrators and restore confidence among affected communities as residents hope for the safe return of the abducted victims.
