A21-year-old Nigerian basketball player, Daniel Adegboyega, has been charged with first-degree rape by forcible compulsion in the United States following allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman at his apartment in Jacksonville, Alabama. Adegboyega, who recently joined Jacksonville State University’s men’s basketball team, was arrested by the Jacksonville Police Department in July and is being held at the Calhoun County Jail without bond pending further court proceedings.

Investigators alleged that the woman visited Adegboyega’s apartment to watch a movie before the encounter turned into an alleged sexual assault. Police said the complainant secretly contacted her roommate during the incident, prompting the roommate to request a welfare check after repeated calls went unanswered. Officers who responded reportedly found the woman in distress and recovered evidence from the scene as part of the ongoing investigation. Adegboyega has denied using force and has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Court records also indicate that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration hold on the athlete. Following his arrest, Jacksonville State University suspended him indefinitely from all basketball-related activities while legal proceedings continue. Authorities have not announced a trial date, and the case remains before the Alabama courts.
