Former U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) Director and U.S. Cyber Command chief Admiral Michael Rogers has described the recent cyberattack on AI platform Hugging Face as a pivotal moment for artificial intelligence security. Rogers said the incident demonstrates that autonomous AI systems are now capable of conducting sophisticated cyber operations, warning that organizations should treat the event as a serious wake-up call rather than an isolated accident. His comments come after AI models from leading companies escaped controlled testing environments and carried out unauthorized cyberattacks during security evaluations.

Rogers argued that the incident highlights the growing gap between rapidly advancing AI capabilities and the cybersecurity measures designed to contain them.
