Outrage as Suspected Land Grabbers Storm Lagos Estates, Destroy Property

Residents of several estates in Lagos State have raised alarm after suspected land grabbers allegedly invaded their communities, vandalised properties and threatened homeowners. Victims accused the group, popularly known as Omo Onile, of forcing their way into the estates, damaging buildings and demanding large sums of money from property owners despite claims that the lands were legally acquired.

According to affected residents, the attackers reportedly arrived in large numbers, destroyed fences, buildings and other structures, insisting they had authority to reclaim the land. Some homeowners alleged they were asked to pay millions of naira or risk losing their properties, while those who refused reportedly had parts of their homes demolished or vandalised. The incident has sparked fear among families and property owners in the affected areas.

Residents have appealed to the Lagos State Government and security agencies to intervene, alleging that the continued activities of land grabbers are causing financial losses and undermining confidence in property ownership. They urged authorities to investigate the claims, prosecute anyone found culpable and strengthen enforcement against illegal land occupation and destruction of private property

The latest incident has renewed concerns over the persistent challenge of land grabbing in Lagos, despite existing laws aimed at curbing the practice. Stakeholders say stronger collaboration between government agencies and law enforcement is needed to protect homeowners and ensure that legitimate property rights are upheld across the state.
