The Nigerian Navy has recovered about 24,000 litres of product suspected to be stolen crude oil during an operation targeting oil theft and illegal refining activities in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State. The operation was conducted under the Navy’s Operation Delta Sentinel.

According to the Navy, personnel discovered an illegal refining site containing two pits filled with the suspected stolen crude. They also found extensive hoses believed to have been installed to facilitate crude oil theft and the movement of illegally obtained petroleum products.

The Navy said the illegal facilities and associated materials were subsequently dealt with in line with existing regulations. The operation forms part of sustained efforts by security agencies to disrupt illegal refining and crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.

The recovery highlights the continued security operations against activities that threaten Nigeria’s oil industry and national revenue. Authorities have maintained their focus on dismantling illegal refining sites and infrastructure used to steal crude oil.
