DeepSeek Launches V4 Pro to Challenge Leading AI Models
China’s DeepSeek has officially released V4 Pro, strengthening its push into advanced AI agents and intensifying competition with major global AI developers.
DeepSeek has officially launched V4 Pro, the latest version of its flagship artificial-intelligence model, as competition among frontier AI companies continues to accelerate. The model, identified as V4-Pro-0813, is now available through DeepSeek’s app, website and API. The release follows several months of testing and comes as DeepSeek works to regain momentum against rapidly improving Chinese competitors.
A major focus of the new release is AI-agent capability. DeepSeek says V4 Pro has been significantly improved at handling tasks that require multiple steps, interacting with tools and operating in software environments. The company has also added native support for the Responses API, making the model easier to integrate into agent-based developer workflows.
The launch is particularly notable because DeepSeek is competing in a market where Chinese AI companies are rapidly advancing. Firms including Moonshot AI, Zhipu and ByteDance are developing increasingly capable models, forcing DeepSeek to improve not only raw model performance but also efficiency, agent capabilities and pricing. The company is simultaneously expanding its workforce and exploring the development of its own AI chips to reduce dependence on external hardware suppliers.
DeepSeek’s business strategy is also changing as the cost of developing and operating frontier AI models increases. The company recently raised $7.4 billion in its first external financing round and is reportedly preparing another fundraising effort that could value it at around $74 billion. At the same time, DeepSeek has announced higher API prices for its V4 models, with new peak and off-peak pricing scheduled to take effect on August 17.
The V4 Pro launch shows that DeepSeek is no longer simply competing on low-cost AI models. Its latest strategy is increasingly focused on advanced reasoning, autonomous agents, developer tools and large-scale AI infrastructure. As companies around the world race to build AI systems capable of completing increasingly complex tasks, DeepSeek’s latest release could further intensify the competition between Chinese and Western AI developers.
