The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, says it has handed over 32,412 parcels of hard drugs and 92 sacks of raw cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency between January and Aug. 13, 2026. The seized substances were transferred to the NDLEA Idiroko Special Command for further investigation.

Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, disclosed the figures while briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko, Ogun State. He said combating drug smuggling requires sustained cooperation among security agencies, stressing that no single agency can secure the country alone.

Afeni said the command had strengthened its operations in line with the directives of Customs Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, using improved intelligence, modern technology and tougher enforcement measures. He said the command would arrest offenders, seize contraband and ensure those responsible face the law.

The controller also said the command had recorded an “unprecedented wave of constant, back-to-back seizures”involving foreign parboiled rice and illicit drugs. He noted that smugglers had adopted more sophisticated concealment methods in attempts to move hard drugs into Nigeria.
