Five Arrested Over Alleged Fake Herbal Medicine Business in Kano
Police say suspects used the identity of a registered traditional medicine practitioner to produce and sell counterfeit products
Police at the Zone One Headquarters in Kano have arrested five suspects over alleged impersonation and the production, sale and distribution of counterfeit herbal medicine products. The suspects are accused of using the name of a registered traditional medicine practitioner to market the products.
The arrests followed a complaint filed on Aug. 10, 2026, by Abdulwahab Abubakar, Chief Executive Officer of Abdulwahab Abubakar Herbal and Islamic Clinic in Bauchi. Police confirmed the arrests in a statement issued by the Zone One Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Hussaini, on Friday.
According to the police, the suspects have provided statements admitting involvement in the alleged offence, while investigators continue efforts to identify and apprehend other people connected to the activities. The command said the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to establish the full extent of the alleged counterfeit herbal medicine operation.
The Zone One Headquarters warned members of the public to remain cautious and avoid fraudsters who exploit the identities and reputations of legitimate businesses to deceive customers. The police said further action would follow as the investigation progresses.
