The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has launched an immediate investigation into an allegation of sexual misconduct involving a lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Arts, and a female student. The development followed videos of the incident that circulated widely on social media on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026.

The university said the lecturer was attacked by irate students following the allegation. Management condemned the reported violence and warned against self-help or jungle justice, stressing that allegations of misconduct must be addressed through established institutional procedures and due process.

According to the university, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has consistently maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual misconduct, harassment and other inappropriate behaviour. Management has therefore directed that a comprehensive and impartial investigation be conducted to establish what happened and determine the facts surrounding the confrontation.

The institution said an administrative process has been activated to ensure that justice is served fairly to all parties. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the dignity, safety and wellbeing of both staff and students, while stressing that “No individual or group is permitted to take the law into their own hands within the University environment.”
