Apple Delays Standard iPhone 18 Launch Until 2027
Apple is reportedly splitting its iPhone 18 launch into two phases, with premium models arriving in fall 2026 while the standard iPhone 18 moves to early 2027.

Apple is preparing to make a major change to its traditional iPhone release schedule. Instead of launching the entire iPhone 18 lineup together in September, the company is reportedly planning to release the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in fall 2026, while delaying the standard iPhone 18 until early 2027. Reports from Apple’s supply chain have provided additional evidence that the base model will not arrive alongside the premium versions.
The revised schedule would represent a significant departure from Apple’s long-running strategy of introducing its main iPhone models at the same time. The standard iPhone 18 is expected to launch in spring 2027, potentially alongside the iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air. Meanwhile, Apple is expected to reserve the 2026 fall event for its higher-end devices, including the Pro models and its rumored first foldable iPhone.
One reason behind the change could be Apple’s increasingly complicated product lineup and supply-chain requirements. Reports have pointed to memory and chip shortages as factors that could encourage Apple to prioritize its higher-margin flagship models. Splitting the launches would also give Apple more time to manage production and avoid putting too much pressure on suppliers during a period of tight component availability.
For consumers, the change means that people waiting for the regular iPhone 18 may have to wait several additional months. Apple is also expected to keep the iPhone 17 in its lineup for longer than usual, giving the current standard model an extended sales period. The standard iPhone 18 could receive upgrades such as Apple’s next-generation A20 chip and potentially more memory, although these specifications remain based on reports rather than official announcements.
The new launch strategy could ultimately give Apple a more balanced product cycle. Instead of concentrating all of its major iPhone releases in one period, the company could spread launches across the year, maintaining consumer attention and sales momentum for longer. If the reports prove accurate, 2026 will mark the beginning of a new two-stage iPhone strategy, with Apple’s premium models arriving first and the more affordable standard models following in 2027.
