Police Arrest Robbery Suspect in Anambra, Recover Arms

49-year-old suspect arrested in Nkpor as police recover pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old suspected armed robber, Chima Ogumba, in the Nkpor area of Idemili North Local Government Area. The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, during an operation on the morning of August 17, 2026.

 

 

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said operatives searched Ogumba during the operation and recovered a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him on Nkpor Road. According to the police, the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the firearm and ammunition.

 

 

The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish his alleged involvement in robbery and determine whether he is connected to other criminal activities in the area. Police are also expected to investigate the source of the recovered firearm and ammunition.

 

The command said the arrest forms part of its ongoing efforts to disrupt armed robbery and other violent crimes across Anambra State. Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
