Inmate Escapes Maximum-Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri
Nigerian Correctional Service urges public vigilance as search for escapee continues

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Borno State Command, has announced the escape of an inmate from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri. The command said the escapee’s name appears as “JOHN ISEARL” on the prison uniform shown in the information released to the public.
In a statement issued in Maiduguri, NCoS Public Relations Officer AB Thliza urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide any credible information that could help security authorities locate the fugitive.
The service appealed to anyone with information about the inmate’s whereabouts, or anyone reasonably suspected to be the escapee, to immediately contact the nearest police station, correctional facility or other relevant security agency.
The NCoS also warned members of the public not to attempt to arrest or apprehend the individual themselves, urging them instead to channel all reports through security authorities. The service said public cooperation was important to ensuring safety as efforts to locate the escaped inmate continue.
