Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 101-year-old woman, Esther Ogunmabo, for allegedly selling cannabis in Ilisan, Ogun State. Ogunmabo was arrested on August 15, 2026, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, reportedly packaged in small quantities for sale. 

According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the centenarian told investigators that she turned to the illicit trade after a fire destroyed her provisions shop. She also allegedly disclosed that one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, supplied her with cannabis every four days, which she then sold in smaller quantities to people in the community.

Following her arrest, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and referred for counselling because of her advanced age. The agency also said the daughter allegedly linked to the supply of the cannabis had been arrested.

The arrest was announced alongside several other drug-related operations carried out by the NDLEA across the country. The agency said the operations resulted in the interception of illicit substances and arrests in several states, as it continues its crackdown on the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs.
