Google Rolls Out Agentic Tasks Across Its AI Ecosystem

Google is expanding Gemini’s ability to take action on users’ behalf, moving its AI products beyond answering questions toward completing multi-step tasks.

Google is accelerating its shift toward agentic AI, with Gemini increasingly designed to do more than generate responses. Instead of simply telling users what to do, Google’s newer AI experiences can interpret a goal, plan several steps and carry out actions with less manual intervention. Google has described this broader strategy as an “agentic” approach to computing and work.

One major area of development is Google Maps, where the company has expanded its AI-powered Ask Maps experience. The system can handle more complex requests involving real-world activities, including finding restaurants, planning journeys and providing personalized recommendations using information connected to the user’s Google ecosystem.

Google is also bringing agentic capabilities into business and productivity tools. In Google Ads and Google Analytics, the company is rolling out AI-powered experiences designed to help advertisers investigate data, uncover insights and move more quickly from analysis to action. This represents a shift from AI as a reporting assistant toward AI that can participate directly in workflows.

The technology is being supported by increasingly capable Gemini models. Google says Gemini 3.7 Flash, introduced in August 2026, is its most intelligent Flash model for coding and agentic applications. Meanwhile, Google’s broader enterprise strategy includes Gemini Enterprise, Workspace intelligence and platforms designed to help organizations build and deploy AI agents.

The bigger significance is that Google is trying to make AI action-oriented rather than conversation-oriented. The long-term vision is an assistant that can understand a user’s objective, access relevant information, perform multiple steps and return with a completed result. That could dramatically change how people interact with search, software and online services. However, agentic systems also require strong safeguards because giving AI permission to take actions introduces new reliability, privacy and security risks.
