Benue University Student Hospitalised After Alleged Attack by Cousin
Police in Benue State have arrested a university student following allegations that her cousin and roommate was attacked with a hot mixture after a disagreement.
A 200-level Political Science student of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, identified as Rose Adikwu, has been hospitalised following an alleged assault involving her cousin and co-tenant. The incident reportedly occurred after a disagreement between the two students escalated at their residence in Makurdi.
According to reports, tensions between the two had reportedly been building over personal issues. Adikwu alleged that after the disagreement, her cousin left the apartment and later returned with a heated mixture, which was allegedly thrown on her before she was left inside the room. Neighbours reportedly responded after hearing her calls for help and assisted in getting her to safety.
The victim was subsequently taken to a private hospital in Makurdi, where she is receiving treatment. The alleged suspect, identified in reports as a 500-level Chemistry student, was arrested by the police following the incident.
The Students’ Union leadership of the university visited the injured student and expressed concern over the incident. The union said it would monitor the case and engage relevant authorities to ensure that the matter is properly investigated and handled according to the law and the institution’s regulations.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged assault. The suspect remains accused, and any responsibility will be determined through due process.
