70-Year-Old Man Arrested Over Alleged Defilement of Eight-Year-Old Girl in Bauchi
Police in Bauchi State say they arrested Usman Abubakar following a report from the girl's father, with the case now under investigation.
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, identified as Usman Abubakar, over the alleged sexual abuse of an eight-year-old girl in the Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis. Police said the girl’s father reported the incident to the E Division in Yelwa on August 26, 2026.
According to the police, the alleged incident occurred on August 24. Authorities said the suspect allegedly lured the child to an uncompleted building in the area. The police subsequently arrested him after receiving the report from the victim’s father.
The police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation. The child was taken for medical examination and appropriate care following the report.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged offence and directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated. The suspect is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi while investigators prepare the case for possible prosecution.
Authorities have urged parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected child abuse. The suspect remains accused, and the allegations will be determined through the legal process.
