President Tinubu inaugurates Nigeria’s first electric taxis in Maiduguri
President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated 107 mass transit vehicles, including 50 electric taxis purchased by the Borno State Government.
Speaking at the ceremony held in Maiduguri, Tinubu commended lGovernor Babagana Zulum for his foresight and people-oriented policies and projects.
The president said that the Federal Government planned to constitute a plant in that direction to create employment and make transportation easier for commuters.
Speaking earlier, governor Zulum stated that he was inspired to proceed on the project following a directive from President Tinubu to the 36 governors after the removal of fuel subsidy on May 29.
The governor stated that the deployment of 50 electric taxis was the first of its type in the country and was in sync with the realities of climate change.
TMY Newspapers reports that the vehicles inaugurated by Tinubu comprised 50 electric taxis, 35 coaster buses, 12 Hummer buses and 10 luxurious buses.
The president, who was in Maiduguri on his first official visit to the state, paid a courtesy call on the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi.
