Why we want DNA test for MohBad’s child – late singer’s father

Joseph Aloba, father of late Afrobeat singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, professionally known as MohBad, has claimed that there are sufficient reasons to doubt if his son is responsible for the child he shared with Omowunmi before his death.

MohBad died on September 12, 2023, in mysterious circumstances that are yet to be be unraveled. The child, Liam, was born less than five months before MohBad’s demise.

Aloba appeared on Arise News’ prime time programme, ‘The Morning Show’ on Friday, to react to some of the allegations that have been made against him since the musician’s death, one of which is that he had been at loggerheads with Omowunmi over MohBad’s properties.

Rather, Aloba, who is a carpenter and pastor, narrated events and circumstances that have made him to doubt the paternity of the child.

“Concerning the DNA aspect, a lot of things have been revealed to me, they have given me the doubt. One of his friends, said the fight they fought on that day, the complaint my son was complaining about is the paternity of that he was doubting.

“Another thing is this, when we started something on the Corona, she mentioned something like was it because the placenta was not given to me? And those are the angles that made me say okay”, he said.

When told that the father of a child is supposed to bury the placenta and not the grandfather, he replied:

“On the Island, there is no place to bury placenta. He called to say his wife delivered a baby and the placenta is with him. The street is just like three busstops apart, I’m expecting you to bring the placenta. Few minutes later, I called him and he said the placenta has been given to the mother of…” and one of the interviewers interject”.

When reminded again that in-laws don’t bury the placenta of a child, as long as his father in around, he answered: “The placenta was not given to him”

Rufai Oseni asked if the family have the DNA of MohBad and the swab of the child to carry out the DNA test, a friend of the family, Azeez Olurin said they have not been granted access to the exhumed body of the singer, despite an application written to the court in that regard.

“The body is still with the Coroner, so nobody could have access to the body. To have access to it, we need a court order. An application has been made to the court since February. No sitting, it has not been assigned to any judge. The substance of the application is to carry out a DNA test”, he said.

On if Omowunmi is co-operating with the family over the planned DNA test, Olurin said:

“She is not in agreement and that’s why she made a request that she needed a court order. What gives baba the suspicion is that there is a friend of MohBad that they went to the show together. When he was given the directive at the inquest, he said while they were coming on the way, he said MohBad said I only slept with you once and you came back to tel me you were pregnant”.

When confronted that it is possible for a woman to get pregnant after having sex just once, he argued there are other incidences which left doubts on their trail.

“Another one is this, The man had never had any thought about about the placenta. When she came to the Corona people and said since when I refused baba the placenta, that is when he started,” he said.

When Aloba was asked if he is fighting Omowunmi because of MohBad’s properties, he said:

“That is capital No! “

On if the push for the DNA test is about the property or to know the truth, the affirmed the latter.
