EFCC arrests crypto billionaire, BLord

The Nigeria Police has confirmed the arrest of popular businessman and cryptocurrency billionaire, Linus Williams, better known as BLord.

Olumoyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police, confirmed the arrest in a short statement he published on his X handle.

He said BLord was arrested by the Force Criminal Investigation Department, (FCID), over investigation relating to internet fraud, computer-related fraud, terrorism funding, and non-compliance with regulatory frameworks among others against him.

“The FCID (NPF-NCCC) is currently investigating complaints lodged against BLORD GROUP, BLORD REAL ESTATE LTD, BLORD JETPAYE LIMITED, and BILLPOINT TECHNOLOGY. These offences include allegations bothering on cryptocurrency fraud, aiding internet fraud, computer-related fraud, terrorism funding, and non-compliance with regulatory frameworks.

“We will do due diligence in our investigations. Our cyber space in Nigeria must be safe and secured by all means. We are committed to achieving that,” the Force PRO said in the statement.

Adejobi did not, however, elaborate on the nature of the crimes or whether police acted on complaints about business dealings regarding Blord.

However, this is not the first time Blord will be arrested. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had previously arrested him in his home in Awka, Anambra State, over alleged involvement in internet fraud.

The anti-graft agency also impounded his vehicles. However, Blord dragged EFCC to court and was absolved of all allegations in a judgment delivered in May 2022.

The Court also ordered the EFCC to release everything taken from him when he was arrested, including his cars.

“I finally defeated and deflated @officialefcc in Federal High Court. My cars and properties (have) been released to me. Never believed at my age I will be fighting the Federal Government but I have to fight for what is mine. This is proof that the Nigerian justice system works,” he wrote on his social media handle at the time.
