Apple Reportedly Set to Debut Its First Foldable iPhone in 2026

Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market with its first foldable iPhone, expected to be unveiled in September 2026. Multiple recent reports point to the device launching alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, although Apple has not officially confirmed the product or its launch date.

The rumored device is expected to use a book-style folding design, opening into a much larger display. Reports suggest the internal screen could measure around 7.8 inches, with Apple working on a hinge designed to minimize the visible crease that has become common on many existing foldable phones. The final design and specifications, however, remain unconfirmed.

Apple is also reportedly considering a different biometric system for the foldable model. Current reports suggest it could use Touch ID integrated into the side button rather than Face ID, partly because the internal design leaves less room for Apple’s traditional facial-recognition hardware. The device could also feature two rear cameras instead of the more extensive camera system found on Apple’s Pro models.

Pricing is expected to place the foldable iPhone firmly in Apple’s premium category. Reports have estimated a price of roughly $2,000 to $2,500, although Apple has not announced any pricing. Supply could also be limited initially, with analysts warning that manufacturing complexity could restrict availability during the first year.

The rumored foldable would represent a major strategic move for Apple as competitors such as Samsung and other manufacturers have spent years developing foldable devices. If Apple successfully delivers a thinner design, durable hinge and relatively crease-free display, it could bring foldable phones to a much larger mainstream audience. For now, though, the September 2026 debut remains a reported expectation rather than an official Apple announcement.
