Burna Boy should stop using police to oppress Speed Darlington – Deji Adeyanju warns
Deji Adeyanju, the lawyer representing singer Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, has strongly criticized the recent re-arrest of his client, calling it unnecessary.
He said, “This is the second time Burna Boy has used the police to oppress Speed Darlington, claiming defamation against him.
In the first incident, Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos and taken to Abuja. This time, he was abducted in Owerri and spent 24 hours in detention at Burna Boy’s request over defamation allegations. This situation is completely unnecessary, and Burna Boy should handle things properly.”
Adeyanju explained that although he was not involved in the previous arrest, his current goal is to ensure Speed Darlington’s safety. “We wanted to obtain a commitment from Burna Boy that he would not harm Darlington in any way, especially since he has issued a veiled threat online,” Adeyanju remarked.
He also criticized the police, claiming they are being used as instruments of oppression. “The police are being manipulated to violate his rights. They kept him for four days. While he was eventually released on bail, they refused to return him to me yesterday, saying they had filed charges. These extrajudicial tactics to appease Burna Boy are a clear violation of Darlington’s rights.”
