Gospel artiste Asu Ekiye ends his 28-year marriage

Veteran gospel singer Asu Ekiye has announced his separation from his wife of 28 years, Kunemofa Asu.
The artiste, popularly known as The Prince of the Niger Delta, disclosed this in a public notice shared on Facebook on Thursday.
The couple married in 1998.
The notice states, “After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience, and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end.
“Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end. I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude, and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season.”
Ekiye mentioned that the marriage effectively ended in 2025 but chose to delay the announcement until now to gain clarity.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to gain perspective, clarity, and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves,” he stated.
In a 2018 interview, Ekiye revealed that he proposed to his wife on the street, adding that they never dated in the conventional sense.
He also praised her character, describing her as a “true companion”.
