Hoodlums chase away #EndBdGovernance protesters in Lagos
Armed thugs on Sunday, dispersed peaceful #EndBdGovernance protesters at the Ojota area of Lagos State.
The protesters have been converging on the area, after a Lagos State High Court restricted them to Freedom and Peace Parks in Ojota and Ketu areas of the state, due to the violence and destruction of government and private properties which trailed the 2020 #EndSARS protests in the state.
Hoodlums had been making attempts to infiltrate the ranks of the protesters but police have been providing protection for the demonstrators.
However, Channels Television reports that a small group of protesters gather around the Gani Fawehinmi Park in the morning, chanting solidarity songs, shortly after President Bola Tinubu’s address to the nation.
Afterwards, the police reportedly barred protesters the who were in their small numbers from holding a procession beyond the designated ground at Gani Fawehinmi park, Ojota. The protesters complied without argument and returned to the designated point.
Later, a major disagreement was said to have played out among organisers of the protest at Ojota in Lagos. A lawyer, who simply wants to be identified as JP, came to address the protesters to leave the protest, on the basis that President Bola Tinubu has addressed the nation.
According to the report, another group of protesters led by 70-year-old Adegboyega Adeniji of Peace Action Transformation insists on remaining on the protest ground until further notice.
The police was said to have stepped in to speak to the small group of protesters to leave.
Shortly after the police addressed the protesters, a group, the protesters claimed, was state-sponsored, came from the other side of the road to disperse them. The hoodlums chased all the protesters in Ojota away.
The the protest ground is currently being occupied by the police.
