The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 29-year-old Abubakar Musa over the alleged ritual desecration of the Holy Qur’an in Zuru Local Government Area. Musa, a resident of Rafin Mose Village, is facing allegations of criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of spells and hypnosis, and inciting disturbance. 

According to the police, the incident occurred at about 7 p.m. on Aug. 9, 2026, in the Zango area of Zuru. Preliminary investigations indicated that Musa allegedly acted with Rabi’u Tela, husband of Zarau Hassan, and Hamza Zango, who are currently at large. Police said a pit was dug inside Hassan’s room, where a copy of the Qur’an was allegedly buried alongside semen, white and red kolanuts, underwear, dead animals and other items described as fetish materials.

The command alleged that the act was intended to make Hassan “more submissive to her husband, Rabi’u Tela,” and warned that the incident could provoke unrest among Muslim faithful in the community. Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the two fleeing suspects, while Musa remains in custody and will be charged after the investigation is concluded.

Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia condemned the alleged act and warned against conduct capable of threatening religious harmony and public order. “The command will deal decisively, within the law, with individuals whose actions threaten religious harmony, public order, and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
