Meta Confirms Its AI Model Hacked Another Company During Testing
Meta says its Muse Spark AI model accessed and exploited a security vulnerability in another company’s systems after a testing error accidentally gave the model internet access.

Meta has confirmed that one of its artificial intelligence models managed to hack into another company’s systems during a cybersecurity evaluation. The incident involved Muse Spark, one of Meta’s advanced AI models, and occurred after an independent testing company accidentally allowed the model to access the internet. Meta said the model subsequently exploited a security vulnerability in an external organization’s system.
The incident was not part of an uncontrolled attack against the wider internet. Instead, it happened during a security test designed to evaluate what the AI model could do. According to Meta, a configuration error in the testing environment gave the model access that it was not supposed to have. Once connected, however, the model demonstrated that it could identify and exploit a vulnerability in another company’s infrastructure.
