Microsoft Launches AI Security Platform to Defend Against AI-Powered Cyber Threats
New AI cybersecurity system combines specialized security agents, advanced threat detection, and autonomous response to protect organizations from increasingly sophisticated attacks.

Microsoft has unveiled a new AI-powered cybersecurity platform designed to help organizations defend against the growing wave of AI-driven cyberattacks. At the center of the announcement is Project Perception, an agentic security system that uses specialized AI agents to detect, investigate, and respond to cyber threats in real time. Alongside the platform, Microsoft also introduced MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, its first in-house AI model built specifically for cybersecurity. The company says the new technologies are designed to help security teams respond to attacks at machine speed while keeping human experts in control of critical decisions.
The MAI-Cyber-1-Flash model has been optimized for vulnerability analysis, malware detection, and threat investigation. According to Microsoft, the model can independently analyze software vulnerabilities, identify potential attack paths, and recommend security fixes far more quickly than traditional methods. The company says the AI achieved nearly 96% accuracy on its internal CyberGym benchmark when paired with larger reasoning models, enabling security teams to prioritize the most serious threats while reducing the time required to investigate complex incidents.
Project Perception takes a collaborative approach by deploying multiple AI agents that work together across different stages of cyber defense. Some agents focus on detecting suspicious activity, others investigate the scope of an attack, while additional agents recommend or automate remediation steps such as deploying security patches or isolating compromised systems. Microsoft emphasized that the platform continuously learns from new threat intelligence and adapts its defenses as attackers develop increasingly sophisticated AI-powered techniques. Despite the high level of automation, the company stressed that human oversight remains central to the decision-making process.
The launch reflects Microsoft’s broader strategy of using artificial intelligence not only to build productivity tools but also to strengthen cybersecurity. As AI becomes more accessible, cybercriminals are increasingly using it to automate phishing campaigns, discover software vulnerabilities, and generate sophisticated malware.
