The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major security successes across 11 states, repelling a terrorist attack in Borno State, rescuing kidnapped victims and recovering a large cache of ammunition during coordinated operations carried out between August 1 and 2. The nationwide crackdown also led to the arrest of suspected kidnappers, cultists, armed robbers and other criminal suspects as security agencies intensified efforts to curb violent crime.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Iniedu Okonokon, combined security personnel successfully repelled an attack on a local government secretariat in Borno, forcing the assailants to retreat while follow-up clearance operations continued. In Nasarawa State, operatives intercepted two female suspects allegedly transporting 551 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 10 loaded magazines and additional ammunition. Police said the suspects provided useful information that is aiding efforts to dismantle the wider criminal network.

The operations also yielded significant breakthroughs in other states. In Kaduna, a kidnapped motor boy was rescued after security operatives exchanged gunfire with suspected bandits, while four abducted victims regained their freedom during bush-combing operations in Kogi State. In Rivers, police arrested three suspected cultists linked to the killing of two officers and recovered two stolen police AK-47 rifles. Similar operations in Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Taraba and Akwa Ibom resulted in additional arrests, the recovery of firearms, illicit drugs and the rescue of another abducted victim.

The Police Force said investigations are ongoing in all affected states as officers continue to pursue fleeing suspects and dismantle criminal networks. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intelligence-driven policing, stressing that collaboration with other security agencies remains key to protecting lives, rescuing victims and restoring peace in communities threatened by terrorism, kidnapping and organised crime.
