Attackers invade Gaya community in Hong, set two houses ablaze as security forces launch manhunt

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Gaya community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa Stateon Monday night, killing a police inspector and seven civilians. The attackers reportedly invaded the community at night, set two houses on fire and killed eight people during the assault.

 

 

Chairman of Hong Local Government Council, Aliyu Sa’ad, confirmed the attack, saying the assailants targeted two houses before fleeing the area. However, Adamawa State Police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje said the initial report received by the command indicated that five bodies—four civilians and a police inspector—had been recovered.

 

 

Nguroje said troops, police, hunters, vigilantes and other security personnel had been deployed to the area to track the attackers. He added that the police command was awaiting further reports from the operation before providing additional details.

 

The attack adds to the security challenges facing Hong Local Government Area, which has experienced repeated insurgency-related incidents. Authorities are continuing efforts to locate those responsible and restore calm, while residents remain concerned about renewed attacks in communities around the area.
