Police Arrest 25-Year-Old Suspected Kidnapper in Anambra
Police say Emmanuel Chekwube Mark was arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Awka, with three firearms recovered and alleged links to a four-man robbery and kidnapping syndicate.
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel Chekwube Mark, over alleged involvement in armed robbery and kidnapping. Police said he was arrested in the early hours of August 27 following intelligence-led operations by officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu.
Police said the operation took place around the Ifite Awka axis of Awka South Local Government Area, where the suspect was allegedly operating as part of a four-member criminal syndicate. Investigators are continuing efforts to locate the other alleged members of the group, who police said remain at large.
Authorities reported recovering three firearms during the operation: one locally fabricated pistol and two pump-action guns. Police also recovered a military-pattern face cap. The recovered items have been retained as part of the ongoing investigation into the suspect’s alleged activities.
According to police, preliminary interrogation produced allegations linking the suspect to a kidnapping incident reported on July 22, 2026. Police said the suspect allegedly disclosed information about the incident during questioning, but these claims remain allegations and must be established through further investigation and due legal process.
The Anambra Police Command described the arrest as another development in its intelligence-led campaign against violent crime. Investigators are expected to continue examining the suspect’s alleged links to other crimes and pursuing the remaining suspects. Mark remains a suspect, and an arrest or allegation does not establish guilt.
