Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper Over Murder of Koffi in Akwa Ibom
A 29-year-old suspect was arrested while allegedly attempting to collect ₦3 million in ransom from the family of a kidnapping victim.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, identified as Otuekong Enoidem, in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of a man identified as Koffi. Police said the suspect was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. on August 25, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation.
According to the police statement, Enoidem was allegedly attempting to collect a ₦3 million ransom from Koffi’s family when officers apprehended him. The investigation began after the reported kidnapping and murder was brought to the attention of the police on August 24.
Police said the suspect, who is from Akai Ubium Village in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, was identified through intelligence gathered during the investigation. Officers also reportedly recovered a mobile phone belonging to the deceased, which police believe was allegedly used by members of the kidnapping group to communicate with the victim’s family.
The recovered phone is expected to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the crime and identifying other individuals who may have been involved. The police said the investigation remains ongoing as officers work to uncover the full extent of the alleged criminal operation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers involved in the operation and said the command would maintain pressure on suspected kidnappers and other criminal groups. Police also appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and detecting crime.
