Bill Gates arrives Nigeria today, to meet with health, nutrition experts

Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Billa Gates, is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday, in furtherance of the charity organisation’s commitment to Africa’s development.

In a statement released on Monday, the foundation said Gates will meet with national and local leaders, partners, grantees, and innovators.

The billionaire, alongside other foundation leaders, will meet with experts in primary health care, agriculture, and nutrition who are driving progress across the continent.

“He will also participate in a pan-African virtual dialogue focused on addressing malnutrition through integrated health, agriculture, and financing solutions,” the statement reads.

“For this dialogue, Gates will be joined by musician, educator and humanitarian Jon Batiste.”

On his last trip in 2023, Gates began with a visit to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

The philanthropist then visited Niger Republic before returning to Lagos to meet young Nigerians and some partners.

During his visit, Gates while citing local data, said Nigeria spends about $10 on healthcare per person annually compared to $8,000 in the US.

He asked that the Nigerian government raise its spend to the sub-Saharan African average of $30 per year.
