Dismissed police officers charged over Kwara student’s killing

The Kwara State Police Command has charged three dismissed police officers to court over alleged conspiracy and culpable homicide.

Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel, and Oni Philip, who are the suspects, were arraigned before a Kwara State High Court on Wednesday.

This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kwara State.

The statement read, “The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the public that the three dismissed officers, Mr Abiodun Kayode, Mr James Emmanuel, and Mr Oni Philip, have been charged to court on 16th October, 2024.

“They face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide in connection with the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola. They have been remanded in prison custody pending further court proceedings.”

Earlier, the Kwara State Police Command vowed that it would prosecute the three police officers found guilty of allegedly killing Ishola, an ND II student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, in the court of competent jurisdiction.

Ishola, a 21-year-old student of the Department of Electrical Electronics of Kwara State Polytechnic was allegedly murdered by the police during a stop and search operation at the Fate area of Ilorin on September 4, 2024.
