Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, had hit back at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, over his comments about him.
Wike, who had a media chat with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, had referred to Adeyanju as “a jobless man seeking relevance” for leading a protest against the demolition of a community in the FCT.
The war of words between Adeyanju and Wike started following the demolition of the community by the FCT Joint Task Force and subsequently rendering of thousands of Abuja residents homeless.
Adeyanju accused the minister of resorting to demolitions without due process.
During the media chat, Wike alleged that Adeyanju wanted to become the deputy publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and he declined his support for him.
Adeyanju, who also addressed journalist on Friday over Wike’s comments, denied the claim by the former Rivers State governor over his ambition.
“Wike never directly opposed my bid for National Publicity Secretary. In fact, he promised his support. I resigned from politics and the PDP voluntarily, and figures like Gabriel Suswam and Sule Lamido can confirm they urged me to stay. I joined politics in 2011 for Goodluck Jonathan and left in 2016, wanting no part in its corruption. My record speaks for itself. I’ve sacrificed greatly, facing imprisonment for my convictions. Wike has allegedly betrayed many who helped him, including Goodluck Jonathan and Rotimi Amaechi. He may do the same to President Bola Tinubu, who wisely maintains a cautious distance,” he stated.
He continued: “From a motor park tour, he became a local government chairman. From then, he has been betraying people. The only difference between Wike and Portable is Portable does not betray people that have helped him. But Wike has betrayed people that have helped him. Wike betrayed Goodluck Jonathan, Wike betrayed Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Wike betrayed Rotimi Amaechi, Wike betrayed Peter Odili; people who have helped him, is it Tinubu that Wike will betray. Even President Tinubu is not that dull, he is politically savvy, he knows, he is just using the long soon to deal with him, and there is nothing you do with Wike that is safe. Wike is the reason why they raised home of judges, he is one of the reasons they allegedly removed the former CJN from office.”
