Angela Okorie Reveals Why She Burnt Outfit Worn to Alexx Ekubo’s Burial

The actress shared a video of the clothing being set ablaze on social media

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has revealed why she burnt the outfit she wore to the burial of her late colleague, Alexx Ekubo, weeks after his passing.

The actress shared a video of the clothing being set ablaze on social media, explaining that she acted on the advice of her godmother, who believes it is not advisable to keep clothes worn to a burial ceremony.

“This is the outfit I wore to Alex’s burial. My Godmother said it is not good to have the cloth you wore to a burial around you; you burn them. So family and friends take note. I felt I should share this information with you all,” Angela wrote.

She also offered prayers for her followers, saying, “May the Lord keep and bless us with long life. Amen.”

Angela’s revelation has sparked reactions online, with many social media users sharing differing opinions on the practice. While some described it as a long-held cultural tradition observed in certain communities, others viewed it as a personal belief rather than a universal custom.

The actress was among several Nollywood stars, family members, and friends who gathered to pay their final respects to Alexx Ekubo, whose death shocked the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Ekubo, known for his roles in numerous films and television productions, was widely celebrated for his contributions to Nollywood and enjoyed a large fan base across the country and beyond.

His passing triggered an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and admirers, many of whom described him as talented, humble, and dedicated to his craft.

Angela’s decision to burn the outfit worn to his burial has once again drawn attention to the cultural and spiritual practices that some people observe after attending funeral ceremonies, particularly in parts of Nigeria where such traditions remain deeply rooted.
