The Chairman of the Kano State Task Force on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, has cautioned politicians against attempting to secure the release of suspected thugs arrested during the agency’s operations, insisting that the law will take its course regardless of political affiliations. 

Rimingado issued the warning while addressing stakeholders in Kano, stressing that the task force was established to restore peace and combat criminal activities linked to political thuggery, drug abuse and other violent crimes across the state. He said the committee would not allow interference that could undermine its mandate.

“Don’t Call Me to Release Criminals”

The task force chairman urged political office holders and influential individuals to refrain from contacting him or members of the committee to seek the release of suspects arrested for criminal offences.

According to him, anyone found engaging in thuggery or other unlawful activities will be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He maintained that the committee’s responsibility is to protect lives and property, adding that no suspect would receive preferential treatment because of political connections.

Committee Vows Fair and Professional Enforcement

Rimingado assured residents that the task force would carry out its duties impartially, emphasizing that its operations would be guided by professionalism, fairness and respect for the rule of law.

He said members of the committee understand the importance of their assignment and would continue working closely with security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community groups and other stakeholders to tackle insecurity across the state.

He also called on residents to cooperate with the task force by providing credible intelligence that could assist efforts to curb thuggery and related crimes.

Government Intensifies Crackdown on Thuggery

The warning comes shortly after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf inaugurated the Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse, Thuggery and Related Crimes and signed an Executive Order aimed at strengthening the fight against criminal gangs in Kano.

The state government said the initiative is intended to address the growing threat posed by political thuggery and drug abuse, which authorities say have contributed to violent crimes and public insecurity.

Governor Yusuf pledged logistical and financial support for the task force, expressing confidence that the committee would help improve public safety and restore lasting peace across the state.

Residents Urged to Support Security Efforts

Rimingado appealed to members of the public to support the government’s anti-crime campaign by reporting suspicious activities and avoiding actions capable of shielding offenders from justice.

He reiterated that the success of the initiative depends on collective responsibility and warned that any attempt to obstruct the work of the task force would not be tolerated.

The chairman maintained that the committee remains committed to ensuring that those involved in thuggery, violence and other criminal acts are held accountable, regardless of their political or social status.
