According to reports, the attack occurred when suspected armed robbers stormed an area where students reside off campus. During the incident, one student was fatally shot, while two others suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital for medical treatment. The assailants reportedly fled the scene before security operatives arrived.

The killing sparked demonstrations across the institution, with students carrying placards and marching through the campus to express their anger over the worsening security situation. Protesters called on the Ogun State Government, security agencies and the management of Gateway ICT Polytechnic to take urgent steps to improve security in the area and ensure those responsible for the attack are apprehended and prosecuted.

In response to the incident, the institution’s management announced the postponement of scheduled examinations to allow students to mourn their colleague and ease tensions on campus. The school also urged students to remain calm while authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Security agencies have since intensified patrols around the institution and adjoining communities as investigations continue. Authorities assured students and residents that efforts are underway to identify and arrest the suspects, while community leaders renewed calls for sustained security measures to protect students and other residents from recurring criminal attacks.
