Police Nab Two Suspected Kidnappers, Uncover ₦15m Ransom Case in Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers believed to be linked to a series of abductions across the state, including the kidnapping of a victim at Divine Heritage Lodge in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, where a ₦15 million ransom was allegedly paid before the victim regained freedom. The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the prime suspect was apprehended on July 27 after investigators tracked his movements through credible intelligence. Information obtained during interrogation led operatives to the gang’s hideout, where a second suspect was arrested. The command said the operation forms part of its sustained crackdown on kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
According to the police, preliminary investigations linked the suspects to multiple kidnapping incidents in Anambra. Officers are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate who remain at large, while further investigations are expected to uncover additional criminal activities connected to the gang.
The command reiterated its commitment to strengthening security across Anambra through intelligence-driven policing and collaboration with residents. Authorities urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, noting that timely information has continued to play a vital role in the success of security operations.
Police assured residents that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations. The command also reaffirmed its resolve to dismantle kidnapping networks and ensure that those responsible for violent crimes are brought to justice.
