Pawn NG Rewrites the Rules of Asset-Backed Finance in West Africa

In Lagos and Accra, a growing number of entrepreneurs, high-net-worth individuals and collectors are discovering that wealth does not always sit in a bank account or appear neatly on a balance sheet.
For many, significant value is tied up in luxury watches, fine jewellery, high-value equipment and other tangible assets. Yet, when urgent liquidity is needed to fund a business opportunity or bridge a cash-flow gap, accessing that wealth through conventional banking channels can be slow, bureaucratic and restrictive.
This is where Pawn NG is seeking to change the narrative.
The alternative finance and luxury asset management company is positioning itself at the intersection of asset-backed lending and Africa’s growing luxury secondary market, helping individuals and businesses unlock liquidity from assets they already own while creating structured platforms for buying, selling and trading high-value items.
Founded as a pioneer in Nigeria’s emerging non-bank financial services space, Pawn NG has expanded its operations across Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, with its recent entry into Accra, Ghana, marking another step in its broader West African growth strategy.
The company, however, is looking beyond the region. Its long-term ambition is to build a pan-African alternative finance ecosystem that provides greater access to flexible, asset-backed financial solutions.
Unlocking wealth in tangible assets
For years, asset-backed lending outside the traditional banking system has often been viewed with scepticism, largely because of concerns around transparency, valuation and consumer protection.
Pawn NG says it is working to redefine that perception by bringing greater structure, professionalism and transparency to the sector.
Its business model allows clients to use qualifying high-value assets as collateral to access liquidity, reducing reliance on conventional credit assessments and lengthy loan approval processes.
“Pawn NG was built around a straightforward mission: to help people unlock the value of assets they already own in a structured, transparent, and responsible manner,” said Eziefula Ezichi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Pawn NG.
“Our ambition isn’t just about providing short-term liquidity; it’s about creating a resilient, trusted ecosystem where clients feel supported every step of the way.”
That proposition appears to be gaining traction. The company says it has served more than 15,000 clients and facilitated thousands of transactions, reflecting growing interest in alternative approaches to wealth and liquidity management.
From financing to luxury asset management
While asset-backed financing remains central to its operations, Pawn NG has also expanded into the luxury secondary market, particularly the authentication, appraisal and brokerage of high-end timepieces.
The luxury watch market presents its own challenges, including counterfeit products, uncertain valuations and concerns over transaction security. Pawn NG is seeking to address these gaps by combining professional authentication and appraisal with market-based pricing and structured transactions.
The model enables collectors and owners to buy, sell and trade luxury watches, while also providing an avenue to leverage such assets for financing.
In doing so, the company is promoting a broader view of luxury assets—not simply as symbols of status, but as stores of value that can potentially play a role in personal and business liquidity management.
Ghana expansion signals bigger ambitions
Pawn NG’s expansion into Ghana represents a significant milestone in its growth trajectory, giving the company a foothold in another major West African commercial market.
The move comes amid growing demand for alternative sources of financing across emerging markets, where access to conventional credit can remain challenging for individuals and businesses.
For Pawn NG, the Ghana operation is also part of a larger continental strategy.
The company’s next phase of growth is expected to focus on three key areas: geographic expansion into high-growth markets across Central and East Africa; greater use of technology to streamline appraisal, onboarding and transaction management; and the expansion of its expertise into a broader range of high-value alternative assets.
As the company scales, its proposition reflects a broader shift in African finance—one in which wealth is increasingly viewed beyond traditional cash and financial instruments.
For Pawn NG, the future of alternative finance may therefore lie not only in what customers earn or keep in their bank accounts, but also in the value already sitting in their homes, collections, businesses and safes.
