Woro Kidnap Victims Return to Ilorin After Months in Captivity

Victims abducted during the deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have returned to Ilorin after spending several months in captivity. They were brought to the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division, Sobi Barracks, late Thursday after regaining their freedom in neighbouring Niger State.

The victims were among those taken during attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in February. Armed bandits killed scores of residents and abducted several others, prompting intensified military and security operations aimed at rescuing those held captive. Another 145 people were abducted from Niger State.

Following their arrival in Ilorin, the rescued victims were taken to an undisclosed location where they spent the night as security agencies carried out verification and began support procedures. Kwara State Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has remained engaged with security agencies during the rescue efforts, is expected to formally receive them.

Authorities described the development as a major breakthrough in the months-long rescue operation. The victims had earlier received medical treatment at a federal facility, while officials continue to verify the number rescued and arrange medical, psychological and humanitarian assistance.
