Ogun Police Arrest Suspected Robber, Recover Guns and 75 Rounds

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, Babatunde Olasunkanmi, over an alleged motorcycle theft along the Orgi Block area of Otele. Police said Olasunkanmi was apprehended at about 12:48 a.m. on Aug. 3, 2026, after a distress call from a motorcyclist who reported that two passengers had robbed him of his motorcycle at gunpoint.

According to police spokesman DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, officers from the Itele Division responded and arrested Olasunkanmi after allegedly finding him pointing a pistol at the victim. His accomplice reportedly escaped with the victim’s red Bajaj motorcycle. Police recovered a locally fabricated cut-to-size double-barrel pistol, charms, a Tecno Android phone and a UBA ATM card from the suspect.

In a separate development, operatives of the Sakura Division recovered an English submachine gun and 75 rounds of live ammunition from a wardrobe in a rented apartment. Police said the weapons were discovered on Aug. 5 after information was received about firearms concealed in the apartment, which had previously been occupied by a deceased landlord.

The recovered weapons and ammunition have been secured for ballistic examination, while investigations continue into their origin and how they were hidden. Police said efforts are also ongoing to arrest Olasunkanmi’s fleeing accomplice, with the arrested suspect and exhibits to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
