The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man identified simply as Michael and another suspect over the alleged sexual assault of his 13-year-old stepdaughter. The suspect, who lived with the girl in the Agege area of Lagos, was arrested on Sunday after the case was reported to the police.

According to community sources cited by PUNCH, the girl had allegedly been repeatedly abused and had previously run away from home before returning to her biological father. She reportedly disclosed to her father that she had been sexually abused by her stepfather, prompting the matter to be reported to the authorities.

Lagos police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said both the stepfather and another man described as the victim’s boyfriend were arrested and detained. She added that the girl was taken to the Mirabel Centre for medical examination and was scheduled to be transferred to the Gender Unit in Ikeja for further investigation.

The police are continuing investigations into the allegations and circumstances surrounding the case. The arrest comes as the command handles another reported case involving the alleged defilement of a minor, underscoring continued concerns over sexual violence against children in Lagos.
