Kwara Police Nab Suspected Kidnapper While Withdrawing Ransom

Muhamodu Sanni arrested at POS terminal after three people were abducted from Obudu Village

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested Muhamodu Sanni, a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate operating around the Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area. Sanni was reportedly intercepted at a Point-of-Sale terminal while attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds linked to a recent abduction.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led investigation launched after three people were abducted during an armed invasion of Obudu Village on July 28, 2026. Rather than focus only on the attack itself, investigators traced the syndicate’s communication, logistics and financial channels, eventually identifying Sanni through information connected to the ransom transaction.

During interrogation, police said Sanni cooperated with investigators and provided information about his alleged role in collecting ransom. He also identified two other suspected members of the group as Aminu and Umar, giving investigators additional leads as efforts to dismantle the network continue.

Kwara Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the command would continue using intelligence-led operations to disrupt criminal networks and deny them freedom of action. He urged residents to support the police by providing timely, credible and actionable information that could assist in preventing and investigating crime.
