NDLEA Destroys N301bn Worth of Illicit Drugs in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 329,865.585 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs and psychotropic substances with an estimated street value of N301.058 billion in Lagos. The court-ordered destruction was carried out at Navy Town, Ojo, following an order of the Federal High Court, Lagos Judicial Division.

The agency said 246,864.535kg of the seized substances were recovered by the Lagos Strategic Command between April 2025 and May 2026, while another 83,001.05kg were seized by other commands, including those at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Tin Can, Apapa and the Marine Command.

The destroyed substances included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis varieties such as Canadian Loud and Skunk, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup, other opioids and khat. NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Buba Marwa said the destruction represented more than the disposal of seized drugs, as it also denied criminal networks access to resources that could endanger public health and safety.

Marwa warned drug traffickers, financiers and their networks that the agency would continue efforts to dismantle their operations. He said every kilogramme removed from circulation represented a potential threat to individuals, families, communities and the Nigerian economy that had been prevented.
